Last night was the Reader's Cup competition. Our school was one of 27 Gold Coast primary schools involved. We came 7th overall which was a fantastic effort from everyone in our team.

We are Giants was one of the 5 books we had to read for the competition. Based on experiences Amber Lee Dodd had with families with disabilities, this story is about a mum (Amy) and her daughter Sydney.

Sydney's mum has dwarfism and average height people, (what Sydney and her sister Jade call them) call her mum names.

This story is about how hard life can be, and how mean people are if you are different. Sydney and her family have to move towns, which is sad for them as the house they are leaving has memories of their dad.

Out of all the 5 books for Reader's Cup this was my least favourite. It didn't grab me as much as Ugly or New Boy. It is a sad story because you see how hard other people's lives can be, and all the challenges they face.

You should appreciate what you have, and treat everyone how you would like to be treated.

My Star Rating: **1/2

It might not be my favourite book, but I learnt something from it.
